WATSONVILLE, Calif., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- West Marine and Universal Pictures have formed a unique cross promotion for the upcoming Universal Pictures release, Miami Vice, which opens in theaters on July 28. West Marine is launching an online Miami Vice contest, where one lucky winner will win a trip for two to the world premiere and the after party of Miami Vice, plus, a $1000 shopping spree at any West Marine store. Ten runner-ups will receive $100 West Marine gift cards. The contest runs through June 23 and you can enter online at www.westmarine.com/miamivice.

The collaboration began last summer when Miami Vice's production team needed safety gear for filming on the water. During filming, the cast and crew wore West Marine's 3000 Offshore Inflatable Life Vest. The 3000's sleek, streamlined design allowed the crew to comfortably wear the vest while shooting long scenes.

In addition to the online contest, West Marine will feature their inflatable life jackets and the Miami Vice collaboration in their summer catalog and in stores during the month of July.

ABOUT THE FILM

Miami's Casablanca allure, the undercover cops and the attitudes of Michael Mann's culturally influential television series have been enhanced by time in the feature film version of Miami Vice.

Ricardo Tubbs (Academy Award(R) winner Jamie Foxx of Ray, Jarhead) is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born intel analyst Trudy, played by British actress Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean II and III), as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders.

Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell of S.W.A.T., The New World) is charismatic and flirtatious until -- while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group -- he gets romantically entangled with Isabella, the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. Isabella is played by the Chinese actress Gong Li (Raise the Red Lantern, Memoirs of a Geisha).
