Statement on Video Choice Legislation From National Caucus and Center on the Black Aged
WASHINGTON, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Caucus and Center on the Black Aged, representing elderly African Americans and low income minorities, commends the U.S. House of Representatives for its passage of the Barton-Rush "Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act of 2006."
"All American consumers will benefit from lower cable TV rates and the improved and broadened service options brought about by video choice legislation," Karyne D. Jones, President and CEO said. "But African American and low income minorities will benefit disproportionately. Reduced monthly rates for cable TV represent an important savings for older minority consumers. And cable TV represents an extremely important part of their daily quality of life. So, video choice legislation is not a nicety for these underserved and vulnerable elderly African Americans, it is fundamentally important, and we thank all the members of the U.S. House who voted for this public interest measure," Jones concluded.
