Statement on Video Choice Legislation From National Hispanic Council on Aging
WASHINGTON, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Hispanic Council on Aging commends the United States House of Representatives for passing the Barton- Rush "Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act of 2006."
"Senior citizens tend to depend more on cable television for their daily entertainment and connection with the outside world than most U.S. consumers. Seniors also depend more on fixed incomes than most U.S. consumers. So, video choice legislation will benefit Hispanic seniors and all senior citizens in two very important ways. First, by giving seniors far broader choices and, second, by reducing their monthly fees for cable television," NHCOA President and CEO Yanira Cruz said. "Video choice legislation passed by the U.S. House represents a significant improvement in the day-to-day lives of all Hispanic senior citizens and, indeed, all U.S. seniors," Cruz concluded.
