Rudy Ray Moore Hospitalized, Released From Intensive Care

Rudy Ray Moore Hospitalized, Released From Intensive Care

LOS ANGELES, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary comedian Rudy Ray Moore has been released after being treated at an intensive care unit at a Los Angeles area hospital, the result of an intensifying longtime battle with health problems stemming from diabetes and other health crises. Moore's hospitalization and subsequent release comes on the heels of his prepping an upcoming retrospective disc for RNB Entertainment, "The Best Of Rudy Ray Moore And Friends." The project will feature some of Rudy's classic skits, along with first-time-ever-on-CD performances by other comedians on his label, including Billie McAllister, Lady Reed, and Jerry Walker. Upon his release from the hospital, Rudy says that although others have issued press releases recently, purporting to be his management, "No one has any legal rights whatsoever to act on my behalf as a manager."

Moore wants to stress that he did not leave the hospital solely on his own accord, but that his doctors felt he was sufficiently recovered.

The iconic Moore, who is known as "The Godfather Of Rap," has appeared in several feature films, and has served as an inspiration to a slew of hip-hop and rap artists, including Ice-T and Snoop Dogg, who enlisted Moore as guest in his 1994 music video for "Doggy Dogg World." Snoop has stated, "Without Rudy Ray Moore, there would be no Snoop Dogg. And that's for real." While getting ready to check out of his hospital room, Moore reminisced about the late rap artist and record label owner, Eric "Eazy-E" Wright, saying, "Eazy used to send over a limo for me with a bottle of champagne when he threw those big parties. So he was a very dear friend." Moore was a predecessor to hardcore, streetwise, black humor that would later be offered by comedians such as Richard Pryor and Chris Rock.

The 79 year-old comedian and actor is best known for risque party albums, which have featured characters like Petey Wheatstraw and Dolemite, a role he played in the 1974 film of the same name. Now collectors items, his original album covers featured racy photos that were banned in many parts of the country.

Moore's raunchy comedy often landed him at odds with the censors, but his fan base was permanently secured many years ago. Moore made history as the first black artist to have two releases on the Billboard charts simultaneously. In recent years, Moore has continued his career, recording albums and performing live. Tom Cartwright and Warren Foster of RNB Entertainment Group, which is slated to release the upcoming album, note, "We are ecstatic about Rudy's recovery, and we look forward to working with him on this and other projects."
