QNN Passes Milestone in Candidate Interviews
MONTEREY, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Quality News Network (QNN) has now conducted more than 100 interviews with 2006 candidates. All are challengers, most for Congressional seats, some for governorships. They are of all political stripes.
QNN launched the interview series in March to help level the playing field for challengers; the roster grows by an average of two per day. By Election Day 2006, QNN expects to have produced interviews with more than 300 candidates. The network-quality interviews run about 20 minutes and cover a broad range of issues from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to health care and education.
"We offer candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of the national and international issues that concern voters most," explained Executive Producer Tony Seton. "Reaching beyond the simple sound bite, we provide a fuller, more accurate picture of the candidate's views and character."
Since the major networks rarely cover any but the most contentious or celebrity races, the candidates are enthusiastic about the opportunity QNN affords:
"I have been doing media interviews for forty years .... Yours was the
best and easiest interview I have ever done." -- Ohio
"Quality News Network holds the highest standard of journalism ethics by
offering an effective tool for increasing voter participation."
-- Nevada
"The Quality News Network website is offering a wonderful opportunity for
voters to hear candidates' positions in their own words." -- Tennessee
"I had almost forgotten what intelligent, professional interviews sound
like." -- Pennsylvania
"The QNN candidate interviews are among the most interesting and in depth
I have ever heard or participated in." -- Missouri
"Your interview was my first chance in the media to get away from
10-second sound bites and speak at length on the real issues."
-- California
"The mainstream media have ignored their obligation to provide thorough coverage of the elections," Seton commented. "Which explains, in part, why so few Americans are voting these days. That's why QNN has stepped up to the plate."
