Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus Hosts a Free 'July 4th Jam' With the City of Parma

Battle of the Bands added to community event this year; Donations to benefit the American Cancer Society's 2006 Relay for Life

PARMA, Ohio, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Cuyahoga Community College's Western Campus invites the community to attend a "July 4th Jam" on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 in conjunction with the City of Parma.

The Western Campus is located at 11000 Pleasant Valley Road, Parma.

A "Battle of the Bands," featuring five local groups, will begin at 3 p.m. in the Western Campus Amphitheatre. Participating bands in order of performance are: Eclyptic, Gravity, Motter Flynn, Frequency and The Blue Book Phonics.

The "Battle of the Bands" is being presented by the Tri-C West Office of Student Life and Athletics in conjunction with the Recording Arts and Technology (RAT) program, which is based at Tri-C's Metropolitan Campus in downtown Cleveland.

Donations will be accepted at the event, which is free and open to the public. Donations will go directly to the American Cancer Society's 2006 Relay for Life, which will be hosted by Tri-C's Western Campus on Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15, 2006 as a fund-raiser for cancer education and research.

Also on July 4, the College will present the annual community fireworks, beginning at dusk.

At 7:30 p.m., a brief program will begin with opening remarks by Parma Recreation Director Mickey Vittardi. Tri-C dignitaries and Parma Mayor Dean E. DePiero and Proud of Parma, Inc. President Donna Smallwood, will speak. Miss Parma 2006, Ashley Thomas, will also be on hand.

At 7:45 p.m. the Mike Jacobs Band will entertain. Then, at 8:15 p.m., Parma Auditor Dennis Kish will sing the National Anthem. A concert by the Mike Jacobs Band will follow at 8:30 p.m.

The public is invited to return to the Western Campus on Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15 for the 2006 American Cancer Society Relay for Life, this year featuring participants from six suburban communities: Parma, Parma Heights, Seven Hills, Brook Park, Berea and Middleburg Heights. This event will be the largest Relay for Life in Cuyahoga County.
