Comcast to Add 284 New Jobs in Washington
Job Growth Reflects Strong Demand for High-Speed Internet, Cable Television and Residential Phone Services
SEATTLE, June 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA)(NASDAQ:CMCSK) is adding 284 new jobs in its Washington offices to keep pace with ever-growing demand for high-speed Internet, cable television and local phone services, the company announced today.
With these new jobs, Comcast will have added 350 permanent, full-time positions in Washington in 2006, a 13 percent increase in the company's workforce year-over-year. Comcast projects it will have nearly 3,000 employees in Washington by the end of the year.
"This is good news for Washington's workers and it shows that companies do not need to leave the state to be globally competitive," said Washington Governor Chris Gregoire.
Comcast expects to fill these positions within the next 90 days. Nearly all of its Western Washington locations, stretching from Bellingham to Aberdeen in Western Washington and Spokane on the eastern side of the state, will be adding employees. The majority of jobs are for front-line technicians, with the rest crossing the broad categories of engineering, sales and customer care.
Comcast offers employees extensive career-path options, competitive pay, medical, dental and prescription benefits, in addition to free and discounted Comcast services. Seattle magazine in its March 2005 issue named Comcast one of the area's best places to work. Potential applicants are encouraged to apply on line at www.comcast.com
"We are looking for employees who enjoy people, love technology, thrive in a fast-paced environment and want a career with real growth potential," said Len Rozek, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Washington market.
Comcast has been growing consistently for the past several years, thanks to the introduction of new products, improved customer service and innovations such as video on demand, digital video recorders and high-definition programming.
In particular, demand for Comcast's new residential phone service, called Comcast Digital Voice, has skyrocketed since its launch in Washington late last year. The service offers customers digital-quality phone service with unlimited direct-dial local and domestic long-distance calling, Web access to voicemail, E911 service and numerous popular calling features.
Nationally, Comcast added 211,000 Comcast Digital Voice customers during the first three months of 2006 and expects to reach 1 million customers by the end of the year, after launching the IP-enabled phone service in 2005. The company does not make available local subscriber numbers for its high speed Internet and phone products.
Strong demand is expected to continue through the rest of the year as the company rolls out a special three-product bundle of voice, video and high-speed Internet services later this summer. The bundle, which was introduced this month in Spokane, offers Enhanced Cable with ON DEMAND, Comcast Digital Voice and Comcast High Speed Internet products for $33 each for 12 months.
Early results of Comcast's bundled pricing offers in other markets across the company have exceeded even the most optimistic expectations. Nearly one out of four new customers is taking all three service offerings in markets that have offered the bundle for 30 days or more, according to company research.
