Bugs! Invades The New Detroit Science Center's IMAX(R) Dome Theatre
DETROIT, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Get a giant-screen view of some of Earth's smallest inhabitants when the IMAX(R) Dome Theatre film Bugs! opens July 8, 2006 at The New Detroit Science Center.
Bugs! explores the dramatic and savage lives of Hierodula, a praying mantis, and Papilio, a beautiful butterfly, from their birth to their inevitable encounter in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. In this ground- breaking film, extraordinary, large format images bring us face-to-face with this amazing universe, where raindrops fall like hand grenades, a leaf weighs more than a car, and a blade of grass soars high into the clouds.
Using cutting-edge macroscopic technology and a lively soundtrack, filmgoers will meet a cast of insect "characters" who will fascinate the entire family -- Leaf Cutter Ants that consume 20% of the rainforest's leaves, Rhino Beetles battling for the attention of a female, the Triobite Beetle hiding his tiny head under armor plating, a Scale Bug disguised as a ball of fluff, and many others.
Shot on location in Borneo and narrated by Dame Judi Dench, this 40-minute feature combines incredible footage with cutting-edge IMAX(R) technology to deliver a fantastically entertaining and enlightening experience about the little guys in life.
Bugs! is produced by Principal Large Format film in association with Image Quest 3-D, co-produced by the UK Film and TV Production Company Plc, financed with The Film Consortium in association with the Film Council. The film is presented by Terminix and distributed to the worldwide network of IMAX and other Large Format Theaters by SK Films Inc. of Toronto, Canada.
The IMAX(R) Dome Theatre is the only domed theater in Michigan. It is also one of only 62 IMAX(R) Dome Theatres in the world. The IMAX(R) screen measures 3.5 stories tall and 65.7 feet in diameter, seats 238 guests and delivers the highest quality in cinematic viewing in the world. The theater presents films that entertain as well as educate. Along with each film, teachers can download a guide for in-class activities related to the film. As part of the Science Center's extensive renovation and expansion in 2001, the IMAX(R) Dome Theatre received a new state-of-the-art sound system with sound enhancements (for hearing impaired visitors), translated audio tracks (for non-English speaking visitors), and a new 15,000-watt lamp house to increase the brightness of the dome image.
