The Chicago Community Trust Makes $40,000 Grant to The Museum of Broadcast Communications to Showcase Chicagoans
CHICAGO, June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC) is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $40,000 grant from The Chicago Community Trust. The grant will help create the Chicago Connection exhibit that will explore Chicago's rich radio and television history. The exhibit will be the first attraction visitors will see upon entering the new MBC at 360 North State Street when it opens in 2007.
"Familiar faces will welcome visitors and not-so-well-known stories of success will showcase the many Chicagoans who have defined broadcasting history," said MBC President Bruce DuMont. "From Zoo Parade to CBS Founder William S. Paley -- from Studs Terkel to CNN's Bernard Shaw -- from Betty White to Jim Belushi, people of all ages will be able to visit, revisit and share stories of their favorite Chicago media icons and learn about how they captured our hearts and imaginations," DuMont added.
In 2004, the Trust made an initial $100,000 gift to the MBC Capital Campaign.
"The MBC's expansion project will enhance the Museum's ability to serve a larger and more diverse public by creating a significant media museum for metropolitan Chicago," said Terry Mazany, president and CEO of the Trust. "The Trust is pleased to continue its support of the Museum as it grows and redefines its role within the cultural life of Chicago."
The four-level, 70,000-square-foot broadcast museum will include two expansive floors of interactive exhibits and dynamic studio experiences. Key exhibits will focus on special subjects and eight programming genres -- Comedy, Drama, Music-Variety, News, Sports, Talk, Games-Reality, and Children.
For more than 90 years, The Chicago Community Trust has connected the generosity of donors with the needs of the community by making grants to organizations working to improve metropolitan Chicago. With assets of $1.5 billion, the Trust gave its billionth dollar in grants in 2006. Last year, it made more than $81 million in grants. From strengthening community schools to assisting local art programs, from building health centers to helping lives affected by violence, the Trust continues to enhance our region.
