ENCINO, Calif., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The nominations for the 2006 Home Entertainment Awards announced today reflect the diversity of product available on DVD and for video game consoles. The nominees include Best Picture Award-winner "Crash," 2005 box office champ "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith," family favorite "Madagascar," the biopic "Walk The Line," the comedy "Wedding Crashers," the thriller "Saw II," the documentary "March Of The Penguins," direct-to-video release "American Pie Presents: Band Camp," the television classics "I Love Lucy" and "Seinfeld," the destined-to- be-a-classic "Desperate Housewives," and the popular video games "Halo 2" and "Madden NFL 06."
The Home Entertainment Awards, presented by the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA), recognize outstanding achievement in home video content, marketing, packaging, rental, and sales. There are a total of 130 nominations in 26 categories for VSDA's 2006 Home Entertainment Awards. The complete list of nominations is available at http://www.idealink.org/Resource.phx/vsda/resources/heawinners.htx.
"These nominations demonstrate that home entertainment delivers a multitude of choices for every taste and interest," said VSDA President Bo Andersen. "Our Home Entertainment Awards recognize those DVD and video game titles that have excelled in various categories. The awards also recognize and celebrate the extraordinary creative and strategic vision necessary to bring a product to the consumer in the highly competitive home entertainment market."
This year's award categories and nominees were determined by VSDA's Home Entertainment Awards Nominating Committee, which is comprised of retailers, distributors, and journalists. In developing the list of nominees, the committee takes into consideration the rental and sales success of the title and the strength of the marketing campaign launched by the studio or distributing label of the video, both to consumers and retailers.
The winners of the Home Entertainment Awards will be announced on July 11th during the Awards Show at VSDA's Home Entertainment 2006 at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
