Dr. Donald A. Bierle says Jesus Wasn't Married
MINNEAPOLIS, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Was Jesus married to Mary Magdalene as Dan Brown suggests in the Da Vinci Code? Dr. Donald A. Bierle, who has advanced degrees in both the life sciences (M.A. and Ph.D.) and New Testament studies (M.A.), says, "Brown contends that the Gnostic Gospels claim Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, yet no Aramaic or Hebrew word for 'companion' normally means 'spouse.' There are no documents known from ancient times that ever refer to Jesus and Mary as being husband and wife." Dr. Bierle, President of Faith Studies International and national speaker, is author of Surprised by Faith and FaithSearch, and hosts the "Jesus: Divine or Da Vinci?" DVD. He exposes and refutes the fallacies in the Da Vinci Code by using historical texts and archaeological discoveries.
"There has been a battle that existed long before the Da Vinci Code between two religious world views -- the eastern and the western. The eastern world view holds that there is an impersonal force in the world -- all reality is held in a circle; we are all one and all a part of creation. We are a part of each other, we are a part of God -- we are God. The other world view is exactly the opposite. It's biblical Christianity -- the belief that we are a part of a creation that is separate from an infinite and personal God. This God is known through his creation and intervention into mankind through history."
Paul L. Maier, Professor of History at Western Michigan University and co-author of the Da Vinci Code -- Fact or Fiction? said, "Dr. Bierle lays bare the deceptions, distortions, and outright falsehoods in the Da Vinci Code on the basis of hard, historical fact. He shows how the New Testament provides the most reliable information in both text and content of any document from the ancient world."
