Hurricanes Are the Most Destructive According to Harris Poll of U.S. Adults

Large Numbers Say the Federal Government Worst Equipped to Handle Hurricanes and Terrorist Attacks

As the spring tornado season continues and the beginning of another hurricane season is close at hand, almost three-quarters (72%) of U.S. adults, surveyed in the latest Harris Poll, say they think hurricanes are the most destructive natural or manmade disasters.(1) Smaller percentages, albeit still majorities, think earthquakes (53%) and tornados (53%) are the most destructive, followed by terrorism (43%) and floods (37%). More Than Two-thirds of U.S. Online Households Pay at Least One Bill Online, According to CheckFree Survey

Online Payments Are Increasingly Replacing Checks for Bill Payment

CheckFree Corporation today announced the most recent results of its survey, "The Latest Consumer Billing and Payment Trends," conducted every nine months by CheckFree Research Services with The Marketing Workshop, Inc. and Harris Interactive. The survey, which tracks bill payment behavior, revealed that 69 percent of U.S. online households say they are paying at least one bill online, up from 56 percent in March 2005. This includes consumers who pay any bill from a single "consolidated" website, such as a bank, and those who pay individual bills at a "biller direct" website, such as a telecommunications or credit card company. Online payments are steadily replacing check writing as the way to pay bills among those surveyed -- with paper checks used for 37.5 percent of all bill payments and online payments used for 35 percent.

New Stroke Guidelines Underscore Importance of Aspirin for Women

Recommendations Highlight Aspirin as a Cornerstone in Reducing Risk of Stroke

New professional treatment guidelines, issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association (ASA), indicate that aspirin can be beneficial for prevention of a first stroke in women whose risk is sufficiently high for the benefits to outweigh the potential risks associated with treatment. They do not recommend similar use of aspirin in men. The guidelines, which are to be published in the June issue of Stroke, a journal of the AHA, again highlight the role of aspirin as a cornerstone cardiovascular therapy. They follow upon joint guidelines, issued by the AHA and ASA earlier this year, that recommend aspirin therapy for prevention of a second ischemic stroke in patients who have previously suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA, or "mini-stroke").

Most Workers Content With Compensation Package, Yet Many Yearn for Flexible Schedules

Hudson Survey of 10,000 Reveals Trends in Pay, Health & Retirement Plans, and Non-Traditional Benefits

Even though three out of four (72%) U.S. workers claim to be very or somewhat satisfied with their compensation, a large portion (44%) of the same sample say they would change their mix of cash and benefits if they could. These findings come from Hudson's Transforming Pay Plans: 2006 Compensation and Benefits Report. This survey, based on the responses of 10,000 workers, examines employee attitudes about traditional and non-traditional pay and benefit programs.
