Discovery Communications to Offer Video Programming on the iTunes Music Store
SILVER SPRING, Md., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Discovery Communications today announced that content from Discovery's family of networks is now available for purchase on the iTunes(R) Music Store (http://www.itunes.com/). The offering includes programming from the Discovery Channel, the number one television and media brand in the United States and around the globe*, as well as TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Discovery Health Channel and Discovery Kids. With the addition of more than a dozen series and specials from Discovery, iTunes now offers even more video content to download for $1.99 per episode for viewing on a computer or iPod(R).

Discovery will offer Apple iTunes users a portable resource of real-world video content from the company's vast library. Whether visiting a National Park, taking the kids on a long car trip, or preparing for the birth of a first child, consumers who love Discovery's programming will now have access to content that both informs and entertains from across key categories, such as travel, science, health, exploration and lifestyle.
Focused on providing informative and compelling content that people can use to enrich and improve their lives, the Discovery programming available on iTunes includes: WORLD'S BEST travel series, NATIONAL PARKS SHORT FILMS and PASSPORT TO EUROPE from Travel Channel; AMAZING BABIES and PREGNANCY FOR DUMMIES from Discovery Health; and KENNY THE SHARK and SAVE-UMS from Discovery Kids. Promoting the best of Discovery's television networks, additional brand-defining series and specials will be available on iTunes including MYTHBUSTERS, EXTREME ENGINEERING and SHARK WEEK from Discovery Channel; and MOST EXTREME and BREED ALL ABOUT IT from Animal Planet.
Discovery will also offer vignettes through the free podcasting feature on iTunes. These will include behind the scenes footage from Discovery Channel's DEADLIEST CATCH and parenting and family relationship tips from TLC's SHALOM IN THE HOME.
This announcement follows a series of new media initiatives Discovery has recently launched that demonstrate the company's aggressive activity in the multiplatform marketplace in creating new services to bring its high-quality, informative and entertaining content to consumers wherever they are. Last month, Discovery launched the first of its U.S. broadband channels, Discovery Channel Beyond and Travel Channel Beyond, as well as Discovery Mobile, a 24- hour mobile programming network designed specifically for portable platforms, which will debut in the third quarter of 2006.
