The Allied Defense Group Announces Successful High Definition Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Flight Demonstration

VIENNA, Va., May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Allied Defense Group, Inc. (AMEX:ADG) announces its Global Microwave Systems (GMS) subsidiary has successfully completed the industry's first successful unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flight demonstration of a High-Definition (HD) video wireless link.

The demonstration was held on April 10, 2006, at GMS' facilities in Carlsbad, CA, in partnership with Flying-Cam of Belgium using a GMS "High- Definition Messenger Link" (HDML) mounted on a Flying-Cam UAV platform. This is the first known successful flight demonstration of a HD link on a UAV platform and paves the way for real-time HD long-range aerial filming for the movie and TV-Broadcast industry. It also opens up the capability for operational deployment of HD UAV platforms in critical surveillance and covert applications that require high resolution images.

The recorded video stream was steadfast during the entire flight and can be viewed at http://movieserver.gmsinc.com/GMS_HD_UAV_WM9.htm.

Sam Nasiri, the founder and president of GMS said, "This is significant achievement at a point where the whole world of video is in transition from 'Standard Definition' to 'High Definition.' Now we can not only read a license plate on a car traveling at 65 mph, we can see it from 2,000 ft in the air with greater brightness, clarity, and color definition -- all unmanned. We expect increasing demand for reliable, portable, long-range high definition wireless solutions like GMS' HDML."

Major General (Ret) John J. Marcello, Chief Executive Officer and President of The Allied Defense Group, said, "GMS' HDML technology is meaningful for broadcast and surveillance applications alike. This is an outstanding accomplishment for GMS and we are proud of the success GMS has experienced with its HDML."

GMS' High Definition Messenger (Wireless-Camera) Link (HDML) includes the High-Definition Messenger Transmitter (HDMT), the 6-antenna diversity Messenger Smart Receiver (MSR), the optional Messenger Antennas Array (MAA) for long distance coverage and an HD MPEG2 Decoder. All versions of the HDML family use a robust digital modulation system known as Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexed (C-OFDM) that provides frequency diversity and powerful Forward Error Correction (FEC) algorithms. The HDMT is also available with a recently announced "High-Throughput Option" effectively doubling the system performance of up to 64Mbps. This capability greatly enhances the ability of a user to make tradeoffs between bandwidth utilization, transmission distance and video transport quality.
