SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT Tunes in to the Motorola iRadio(R) Revolution
LAS VEGAS, April 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The movement to revolutionize the radio listening experience took another huge step forward today when Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) announced that SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, a global music company with a vast artist roster spanning emerging artists and international superstars, has commercially licensed content from its catalog for use on the award-winning Motorola iRadio(R) service.
The innovative iRadio service will be showcased during CTIA Wireless 2006 (Las Vegas Convention Center) where Motorola is exhibiting at Stand #2606.
Through this arrangement, Motorola iRadio listeners will have the ability to enjoy music from SONY BMG's vast catalogue of up-and-coming bands, current chart-toppers and timeless classics. In addition, SONY BMG will distribute original radio programming that will debut exclusively on iRadio. The SONY BMG labels include some of the world's leading superstar artists.
Motorola iRadio is the first digital music service to offer a truly seamless listening experience -- from the desktop to the car stereo through the one device you are never without: the mobile phone. With over 435 commercial-free channels of music and talk it's one of the most comprehensive offerings of mobile music. Motorola iRadio allows listeners to seamlessly transition downloadable, Internet radio programming from one location to the next via Bluetooth(R) -- without losing audio quality or missing a beat.
Listeners can also create their own iRadio "Wish List" by instantly tagging an individual song or artist of interest with the press of a button on the phone or car stereo, making it easy to recall the names of long-forgotten favorites or newly discovered artists and purchase downloads, CDs or even concert tickets on the computer.
"Motorola's iRadio service and hardware provides a new, secure and versatile platform to deliver 'time shifted' radio programming to the vehicle and the mobile phone," said Thomas Gewecke, Executive Vice President, Global Digital Business for SONY BMG. "We are delighted to be working with Motorola as they roll out this new initiative."
"The artists on SONY BMG's labels are nominated for a staggering 125 Grammies this year," said Mike Gaumond, Motorola vice president and general manager, Digital Media Services. "The sheer diversity of the SONY BMG roster, coupled with the Motorola iRadio service, will give listeners access to a massive assortment of contemporary music and time-tested masters -- enabling iRadio's programming to be accessed by subscribers anyplace and anytime they choose. The addition of content from SONY BMG is a major step forward in creating the most innovative and comprehensive service possible."
In addition to today's announcement, Motorola has announced that both Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group will provide exclusive artist and genre channels for iRadio. For more information, visit http://www.motorola.com/iradio .
