Sal Ferro, President of East Meadow based Alure Home Improvements, Makes Special Appearance on 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

EAST MEADOW, N.Y., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- ABC's Emmy-winning hit show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition recently visited the Gulf Coast to help out several places that were destroyed by hurricanes Rita and Katrina during the nasty 2005 hurricane season. Alure President and part owner Sal Ferro made a special appearance, to help support the crew of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The episode is scheduled to air this Thursday, April 13th at 8pm on ABC.

Through the help and donation by Motorola and the Nassau County Fire Chiefs Association, Ferro was able to deliver over $20,000 worth of radios for the firefighters and also delivered a beautiful Dalmatian that was rescued from a shelter, to the heroic men of Firehouse #4 in Sabine Pass, Texas. Ferro, who has led Alure through four renovations for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, spent some time talking to the volunteers and to the contactors donating their time, The Trevino Group.

"It's easy to feel disconnected when you are so far away from the devastation. Just as New York experienced the devastation of 9/11, the Gulf Coast experienced similar devastation from hurricanes Rita and Katrina. We as a country have to share in helping the rebuilding effort. Seeing first hand the devastation truly hit home just how bad it was, and how much they really need help."

The heroic men of firehouse #4 are working and living out of a small trailer on the outskirts of town. Their pump fire engine sits parked outside along a gravel drive next to the trailer, exposed to salty-wet and gusting gulf coast blasts. They're not complaining though ... they have a sworn job to do in a community that relies upon them as their "last and only defense" for nearly every emergency situation. The nearest ambulance and hospital are over 20 miles away. An entire community's well being rests in the hands of these nine men who are currently receiving all 911 calls over a consumer grade hand radio ... and the trailer they're working in is on loan from the Coast Guard. The men of Fire House #4 have lost not only a professional, operational firehouse to Rita's fury ... they've lost a home away from home, and the ability to truly respond to a community that continues to see more than its fair share of tragedy.

Ferro has already led his company, Alure Home Improvements, through four extreme renovations for the show, with the most recent in Jamaica Queens for the Peter family, which is scheduled to air sometime in May.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman. The show airs Sundays (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.

The Texas episode is scheduled to air this Thursday, April 13th at 8pm on ABC. This is subject to change by ABC so please check http://www.alure.com/ for confirmation.
