ARLINGTON, Va., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Country star Chely Wright will perform for Air Force personnel on a USO tour to Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz., April 21. The base is a key Air Combat Command installation, with origins dating to the early days of civil aviation.

From a military family, Wright's life-long support of service members began with performances at VA hospitals and military events during her childhood. She was among a host of entertainers on the USO's first tour to Baghdad in June 2003. Most recently, she performed at a USO concert at Fort Stewart, Ga., for soldiers who recently returned from Iraq. Wright also has performed for troops in Kuwait, Qatar, Japan, Korea, Germany and Afghanistan, and on a second tour to Iraq.

Known for such hits as "Single White Female" and "Shut Up and Drive," Wright penned most of the songs on her sixth album, The Metropolitan Hotel, including "The Bumper of My S.U.V," which has touched the hearts of deployed troops and their families. The song spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard's Country Singles Sales chart. Wright has received numerous awards from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music (ACM), including the ACM award for Best New Female Artist in 1995. She is involved with several charities, and was named "Woman of the Year" in 2003 by the American Legion Auxiliary.

Revived in 2002, the USO's domestic tour program brings entertainment to troops stationed in the United States as well as their families. Recent tours have featured Gary Sinise, Jeff Foxworthy and rock band Clutch.
