Path 1's New Vx8000 3.0 Drives Perfect Video over the Public Internet
Built to Significantly Improve Network Availability over the Internet, Lower Operating Costs for Broadcasters
Product to Debut at NAB 2006, Booth #C9535
LAS VEGAS, NAB, April 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. (AMEX:PNO), a leading provider of IP video gateway products that enable the transmission of broadcast-quality video over IP networks, introduced today the next generation of its flagship product line, the Vx8000 3.0. New to the Vx8000 IP video gateway is a set of sophisticated, end-to-end network diagnostic tools that enables broadcasters to utilize and optimize low-cost Public Internet links to successfully transport a variety of digital video formats including real-time content for SDTV, HDTV and IPTV. Additionally, Path 1 is offering a standalone network analysis tool, NDx, which allows users to test their existing Internet connection and determine how much untapped video capacity already exists. The NDx tool will be available as a free download from Path 1's website in 30 days.
Based on customer input and Path 1's extensive video transport expertise, the Vx8000 3.0 brings to market a comprehensive toolset that identifies loss period, loss distance and jitter, and fixes network anomalies that degrade the reliable transport of high-quality video over the Public Internet. The Vx8000 represents leading-edge video contribution technology that enables broadcasters and operators to benefit from the cost savings, scalability and flexibility the Public Internet provides for video distribution.
Several of Path 1's broadcast customers are leveraging the Public Internet for video transport across the globe. RTVi, a 24 hour Russian language TV network with 50 million viewers worldwide, is enjoying a 90% cost savings over satellite transport with Path 1's equipment. The company is using the Public Internet to transport video between its headquarters in New York City, studios in Moscow and Tel Aviv, and its broadcast station in Cologne, Germany. In another example, Dhammakaya Thailand is a religious Buddhist Broadcast Channel that relies on the Public Internet to transmit real-time video from Thailand to a satellite service in Hong Kong to reach a worldwide audience. Since deploying Path 1's technology, Dhammakaya has significantly improved its network availability for high-quality video from 60% to 99.9%.
"The Public Internet provides an affordable and ubiquitous network for reliable long-haul transport of high-quality video, and Path 1 provides the only technology that can make it a reality today," said Rick Segil, vice president of marketing at Path 1. "Vx8000 3.0 will give broadcasters the advanced tools that will enable them to first visualize and then realize how effective the Public Internet can be for moving video content. With the introduction of new broadcasting technologies and business models, leveraging the Public Internet is clearly the most cost-effective direction to take."
The Vx8000 3.0 is a multi-port IP video gateway that offers users the choice of either standards-based Pro-MPEG COP #3 FEC or ClearPath Pro FEC, which provides the additional error protection required for reliable video transport over the Public Internet. With Vx8000, broadcasters can deliver real-time, broadcast-quality MPEG-2 transport streams carrying MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and VC-1 video in Standard (SD) and High Definition (HD) formats. Furthermore, Path 1's new network analysis tools monitor, find and fix network errors that may impair performance in any type of IP network link, including the Public Internet. The NDx software tool enables users to develop a better understanding of how video can be reliably transported over the Public Internet.
Availability
Vx8000 3.0 is available immediately. The downloadable version of NDx will be available from Path 1's website within 30 days. Products are available for purchase directly through Path 1 Network Technologies or from any of its worldwide channel partners.
Path 1 will showcase the Vx8000 3.0 at NAB 2006 in its booth #C9535, located in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center the week of April 24-27.
