Vivantel's 'AMP' Delivers Full Wide-Screen Format 1080i HDTV and Video Telephony Over Consumer Broadband Connections
Vivantel provides revolutionary data compression, enabling IPTV, Internet TV, VoIP or any data transfer over a fraction of the otherwise required bandwidth without the need for additional software or a proprietary viewer
SAN FRANCISCO, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- As developers convene this week to evaluate new Intel technologies and vendor solutions at the Spring 2006 Intel Developer Forum (IDF), Vivantel will announce the arrival of the future with its release of AMP.
Current bandwidth limitations of commonly available consumer broadband networks have handicapped vendors' ability to deliver high-quality multimedia content. Vivantel's proprietary, patent-pending data transfer protocol, AMP (Advanced Media Protocol), is a flexible, cost-efficient way for content providers and communication service providers to provide high-quality streaming video and a full range of IP telephony services over current broadband networks.
Vivantel's AMP technology enhances existing media delivery systems by encapsulating the video stream, providing additional compression of 10:1 or more. With this technology, streaming HDTV can be delivered, via widely available consumer broadband connections, and displayed in its full wide-screen format. AMP requires a connection of only 2.5 MB for 1080i HDTV, 1.2 MB for 720i, 768k for Standard Definition (SD) full screen and 512k for portable devices such as the PDA qVGA format.
AMP provides this superior quality, on an operating system platform running on Intel processors, without the need for additional software or a proprietary viewer (i.e.: RealNetworks RealPlayer(R) is still used to play the RealNetworks(R) media format and no additional software is required by the client). Video streams are full-featured and include advanced options such as closed captioning, subtitles, multiple language tracks and full support for 5.1 Dolby(R) digital surround sound and 6.1 THX(R).
Bill Sikkens, CTO of Vivantel, said, "The effect of AMP on communications and entertainment cannot be understated. Vivantel will revolutionize the convenience of communications and home entertainment by delivering on the promise of instant high quality video to digital equipment including fixed and wireless devices. Today's consumer expects the same high-end media experience regardless of the method or medium, and we think it's important to meet the needs of busy professional and family lifestyles by offering products and services that are easy to use and relevant. With Vivantel AMP, you don't have to compromise."
