New Line Cinema Encourages Audience Environmentalism With 'Hoot' Downloadable Desktop Pet Owl in Partnership With the National Wildlife Federation

LOS ANGELES, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to build awareness for the needs of wildlife and engage families in a fun and interactive activity, New Line Cinema has created a program where consumers can download a HOOT DESKTOP PET, which helps fund the National Wildlife Federation's efforts to protect owls and other wildlife and habitat around the country.

"The HOOT Desktop Pet provides a fun, innovative and engaging way to educate children about wildlife and at the same time helps support the National Wildlife Federation's valuable conservation programs," stated NWF Director Carey Stanton Rogers.

The HOOT DESKTOP PET can be downloaded from the official movie web site at http://www.hootmovie.com/ and other partner sites; one click installs the program, after which a cute animated burrowing owl takes up residence on the consumer's computer screen, wandering about and performing a number of different routines randomly or in response to commands, including feeding, listening to music and skateboard riding.

Consumers who "Adopt" their DESKTOP PET will be invited to fill in a form to register their pet adoption. National Wildlife Federation will receive a donation from New Line Cinema for the adoption program. Parents and children doing good also get benefits as families who adopt the DESKTOP PET will automatically be entered into a grand prize drawing for a trip for 4 to Florida, 2 concert and backstage tickets for a Jimmy Buffett concert, and the opportunity to meet Brie Larson, star of HOOT.

"It's exciting to be a part of the Hoot DESKTOP PET adoption program because it's such a great way for families to learn about the eco-friendly message of the film and support the Wildlife Federation," says star Brie Larson.

Scheduled for an April 21 release, HOOT revolves around three middle-schoolers take on greedy land developers, corrupt politicians, and clueless cops in the mystery adventure, based on Carl Hiaasen's Newbery Honor-winning book. Hoot is from a screenplay by Wil Shriner and directed by Wil Shriner and stars Logan Lerman, Brie Larson, Cody Linley and Luke Wilson. Hoot is produced by Jimmy Buffett, Frank Marshall (Seabiscuit, Signs) and Walden Media (Because of Winn Dixie, Holes).
