KARE 11 Named Station of the Year; Reporter Also Honored

MINNEAPOLIS, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- KARE 11 was named the 2006 national Large Market Station of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) it was announced today. At the same time, KARE's Boyd Huppert received the first ever NPPA Photojournalism Award for Reporting.

Previously, KARE won the Station of the Year distinction in 1985, 1995 and 2000.

"Having industry peers choose KARE for such a high honor is gratifying for everyone at the station," said John Remes, President and General Manager of KARE 11. "But to make it happen consistently over the years sets the bar very high -- and keeps it up there," he added.

Huppert, a ten-year KARE 11 veteran, has been a broadcast journalist since 1984. He has received many industry honors including national Edward R. Murrow awards.

"Boyd is a superb storyteller," said Tom Lindner, Vice President/News Director of KARE 11. "His talents, in concert with the KARE photo staff, provide us with the best photojournalism has to offer. We do the work for our viewers but it's great to have a national organization take note as well," he added.

Contest results were announced Friday during a Webcast from The Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg Florida.
