Hundreds Expected for Purim Parade in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, March 13, 2006 at 5:30 PM, crowds will gather at Rittenhouse Square for a masquerade and parade procession in honor of the Jewish holiday of Purim. There will be musicians and jugglers accompanying the parade.

The highlight of the event will be the procession down Walnut Street, which will conclude at Congregation Bnai Abraham at 527 Lombard St. The marchers will join the crowds there for the reading of the megilla scroll. This reading tells the story of a long-ago miracle that happened to the Jewish people in Persia.

This is the kickoff event for the Purim holiday celebrations in the entire Delaware Valley. Synagogues and community centers throughout the Delaware Valley will begin their celebrations shortly afterwards. They will be celebrating this, the most joyous holiday on the Jewish calendar.

On the following day, Tuesday, March 14, there will be non-stop celebrations and readings of the megilla throughout the day at Temple University Center City Campus at 1515 Market St.

The entire community is invited to all of these events. For more info call 215-574-9280.
