JAMES PURNELL OPENS DIGITAL TV DAY
London, 28 March/GNN/ --
DEPARTMENT FOR CULTURE, MEDIA AND SPORT News Release (042/06) issued by The
Government News Network on 28 March 2006
Broadcasting Minister, James Purnell, will tomorrow, Wednesday 29 March,
officially open Digital TV Day at the Idea Store Whitechapel.
Digital TV Day is a pilot project which examines the unique role that libraries
can play in keeping their local communities informed about digital switchover.
You are invited to send a photographer, film crew or reporter to the event.
When: Wednesday 29 March 2006
Time: 9.30am
Where: Idea Store, Whitechapel (Whitechapel Library)
319 - 331 Whitechapel Road, London, E1 1BU.
London will be switching to digital-only TV in 2012 but Londoners don't need
to wait until then - the sooner they switch, the sooner they can enjoy the
many benefits that digital TV offers.
Telling people how they can switch and communicating the benefits of digital
TV is key to a successful switchover.
The Government is working with libraries, a trusted source of information
in local communities, to help communicate to consumers at a grass-roots level.
For more information or if you wish to attend the event, contact the Department
for Culture, Media and Sport Press Office on 0207 211 6269/6267.
Think 'digital' when buying new TV or recording equipment and look for the
'digital tick' logo. It certifies information, goods and services designed
to help consumers through digital switchover.
