Harnessing the Power of Deadline 2.0

Harnessing the Power of Deadline 2.0

Frantic Films Software releases Deadline 2.0

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Frantic Films Software, a division of one of Canada's leading visual effects companies for film and television, is pleased to announce the release of Deadline(TM) 2.0, the second generation of the company's production-proven and ultra-reliable render farm management software.

Beyond Deadline's intuitive artist-designed user interface, robust architecture and broad plugin support, Deadline(TM) 2.0 offers a variety of new features, including:

* The Deadline(TM) Power Management system can significantly reduce energy consumption by automatically turning machines on and off based on the current render farm load. When coupled with a custom temperature switch, this feature can also protect your render farm investment by shutting down machines if the environment becomes to hot.

* The Deadline(TM) Pulse application is designed to improve Deadline's performance by increasing Monitor refresh rates, and decreasing Slave polling time when searching for a job.

* Deadline(TM) Monitor submission dialogs are now written in VBScript, and can be added and customized as necessary. See Deadline Scripting for more information.

* The Deadline(TM) pool limit has been increased to 46656, well above the previous pool limit of 36.

* New and improved plugin support has been added for 3ds Max 8, Maya 7.0.1, Fusion 5, After Effects 7.0, Combustion 4, Nuke, Houdini, Cinema 4D and RealFlow3.

"In the price competitive world of visual effects, controlling costs is key. The power management feature in Deadline allows us to save on energy costs both for the operation of the farm and the required air conditioning," says Ken Zorniak, Frantic Films COO. "Furthermore, the temperature monitoring system allows us to rest assured that if there is a cooling failure we won't wake up to a pile of molten metal in the server room."
