Nick Jr. Commences Production on New Season of Blue's Room

NEW YORK, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Nick Jr. invites preschoolers, parents and educators alike to join in commemorating the 10th anniversary of Blue's Clues, the gold standard in interactive preschool television. Nick Jr. will kick off a special celebration of the beloved series that changed the way preschoolers watch TV, by introducing the audience to a new character -- Blue's brother -- on the hour-long primetime movie Meet Blue's Baby Brother on Sunday, September 10, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT). For the very first time, the special melds the two worlds of Joe and the classic animated world of Blue's Clues with the puppets on Blue's Room. Meet Blue's Baby Brother will feature a special game of 'Gold Clues' as preschoolers help search for Blue's baby brother and share another milestone with their favorite blue puppy.

Now in its 10th year, Blue's Clues continues to draw acclaim for its unique interactivity that changed the way kids watch television. The landmark series still prevails as one of the top three preschool series on all of commercial television.

Nick Jr. also announced today that it has commenced production on a new, 10-episode season of Blue's Room, the half-hour Blue's Clues spin-off series. Blue's Room, which originally premiered as five, half-hour specials on Nick Jr., takes preschoolers into a live-action playroom featuring Joe and Blue as a puppet who has the ability to talk directly to the viewers at home.

"We are proud to be celebrating ten years of Nick Jr.'s classic hit which has become a huge part of preschoolers and their parents' lives," said Brown Johnson, Executive Creative Director, Nickelodeon Preschool Television. "Blue's Clues is a groundbreaking series that continues to entertain and captivate viewers with its landmark interactivity, while also serving as an important educational tool for young audiences."

In Meet Blue's Baby Brother, preschoolers at home will join Blue, Joe and their friends in a very special game of 'Gold Clues' to meet the newest member of Blue's family -- his baby brother Sprinkles! It all begins during a family celebration with Joe and the gang, when Blue announces she has a baby brother who will be joining the celebration. Blue cannot wait to meet him, but first she and Joe must embark on an interactive quest in PuppyVille to discover which puppy is her brother. In a classic Blue's Clues style, Joe and Blue search for three gold clues that will lead them to Sprinkles.

Blue's Room unlocks the door to a whole new world for preschoolers, as the beloved animated puppy Blue is transformed into a loveable puppet who can now talk with them. Every Blue's Room episode is the ultimate play date, as preschoolers talk, play, pretend and imagine with Blue and her playroom friends. Every playful puppet and activity in Blue's Room is specially designed to support the show's literacy goals, now deepened by Blue's ability to talk with preschoolers at home. In Blue's Room, early literacy skills are promoted through talking, reading, writing, pretending and playing. For example, 'dictionary' introduces a word of the day to be used in context, defined and sounded out; and in the 'book nook' preschoolers are asked to listen, reflect and analyze stories.

Airing on Nick Jr. weekdays at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (ET/PT), Blue's Clues is a think-along, play-along half-hour animated series starring live- action host Joe and an energetic bright blue girl puppy named Blue. In each episode, Joe invites viewers to help him and Blue solve the day's puzzle. Blue's Clues launched in September 1996 to critical praise from teachers, parents and young viewers. Blue's Clues continues to draw acclaim for its unique interactivity that has changed the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most watched preschool shows on U.S. television. Now in its 10th season, the series continues to raise the bar in preschool television by exploring advanced subject matter such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions and anatomy.

Blue's Clues was created by Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler and Angela C. Santomero. Santomero serves as Executive Producer and Head Writer, and Johnson is Executive Producer and Director of Design. Jennifer Twomey also is Executive Producer and writer for the series. Blue's Room is also created and executive produced by Traci Paige Johnson and Angela C. Santomero.
