'Divorced American' Documentary Debuts in Hollywood Screening

Film Tells the Story of a Young Man Who Goes Through the Pain of Divorce and the Lessons He Learned Along the Way in His Search for Answers

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- A screening for the new documentary, "Divorced American," is being held today in Hollywood, Calif. Produced by LTL Productions and directed by award-winning film maker Michael Ray Gonzales, the film tells the story of 26-year old Trevor Downie as he searches for answers after going through a traumatic divorce.

"The film looks at the question: 'What happens to a person when their world is shattered by divorce?,'" said Gonzales. Initially the film project was a documentary, as he puts it, "without a face," until he met Trevor. Gonzales and his crew accompanied Downie to various locations across the U.S. to conduct interviews, including Austin, Texas, New York City, Oklahoma, Princeton, N.J., Las Vegas, Nevada, Seattle, Wash., Portland, Ore., San Diego, Los Angeles, and Monterrey, Calif.

Downie sat down to ask a variety of experts and everyday citizens, the questions that most Americans are afraid to ask about marriage and divorce. "What he learns about commitment, communication, and compatibility are things that shake up his worldview," explained Gonzales, "and his life."

The documentary looks at divorce in America, a phenomenon that occurs at a rate of over 50 percent. The film was produced under the auspices of Love That Lasts (LTL), a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping stem the tide of divorce through education and counseling services. Jay Kim, president of LTL, served as executive producer of the film production.
