TNR Entertainment's Top 'New Release' Rentals for January Include Oscar-Nominated Films, Mainstream Hits and Horror Remake
HOUSTON, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heals of the recently announced Oscar nominations, TNR Entertainment Corp. (The New Release), the nation's largest owner and operator of $1/day DVD rental kiosks in grocery stores, announced the top movie vote-getters for the month of January based on actual customer rentals.
Of the 40 feature-length films nominated for an Oscar this year, 12 are already out on DVD, including five newly released in the month of January -- all of which ranked among TNR's top "new release" DVD rentals for the month according to customers. January's top 'new release' rentals are as follows:
1. Wedding Crashers
2. Dukes of Hazzard
3. Madagascar
4. War of the Worlds*
5. Constant Gardener*
6. Two for the Money
7. Flight Plan
8. Hustle and Flow*
9. The Fog
10. The Cave
11. Crash*
12. Cinderella Man*
"Fortunately for movie buffs, today's films are being released soon after concluding their run in the theaters, so they can immediately go out and rent a film that is receiving industry buzz if they happened to miss it while it was out," said Tracy Walker, company spokesperson, The New Release.
TNR expects an equally mixed bag of new release titles to capture consumers' attention next month, with Oscar-nominated films scheduled for release on DVD in February to quickly become rental favorites. The company's projected top "new release" DVD rentals for February are:
1. Wallace & Grommit's Curse of Were Rabbit*
2. Walk the Line*
3. North Country*
4. Rent
5. Pride and Prejudice*
6. Just List Heaven
7. Elizabethtown
8. Saw II
9. Ice Harvest
10. The Weather Man
11. Proof
12. March of the Penguins*
* Oscar nominated.
TNR serves hundreds of thousands customers each month at its nationwide network of locations. TNR's kiosks store up to 1,000 DVDs representing more than 200 titles, including top new releases and popular classics. The fully-automated kiosks operate on a wireless communication network and next-generation DVD kiosk operating system.
After inserting their debit or credit card, customers utilize the kiosk's touch-screen to browse from a variety of movie categories. After a selection is made, the kiosk dispenses the DVD and customers have up to two weeks to view the movie at the rate of $1 per day per DVD for recent popular titles, before returning it the TNR rental location.
TNR is based in Houston, Texas. The company is currently planning an aggressive expansion of its retail locations in 2006 with the goal of more than doubling its kiosk network as it penetrates new markets. TNR is the first DVD-only kiosk provider and pioneered the successful "$1 per day" pricing structure.
