Sixth Annual 'Flight Of The Oscars(R)' Takes Off for Los Angeles with Oscar Statuettes and Celebrity Master Chef Wolfgang Puck

Passengers Onboard Oscar-1 Experience Luxurious VIP Treatment

CHICAGO, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today passengers onboard United p.s.(SM) flight Oscar-1 will be flying with Hollywood's most coveted awards -- the 13-and-a-half inch tall Oscar statuettes. Oscar-1 will travel approximately five and a half hours from New York to Los Angeles with the 50 Oscar statuettes that will be presented at the 78th Annual Academy Awards(R) on Sunday, March 5. Passengers will receive a special gift from celebrity Master Chef Wolfgang Puck who will serve gold-coated chocolate Oscar statuettes, a signature item at the Governor's Ball, which his company has catered for the past eleven years.

"United is thrilled to participate in this special 'Flight of the Oscars' tradition for the sixth year in a row," said Dennis Cary, United's senior vice president of Marketing. "Our award-winning p.s. transcontinental service is ideal for customers who prefer to travel coast to coast in high style just like a celebrity."

All 50 of the gold-plated statuettes will be flown on Oscar-1 by Captain Dennis Taylor. Upon arrival, the statuettes will be handed over to Academy officials at Los Angeles International Airport. One special Oscar statuette will ride in United First(R) with Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Executive Director Bruce Davis.

"The Academy entrusts United with our most valuable assets," said Davis. "We look forward to providing the passengers on the flight with the opportunity to see an Oscar up close and feel a part of an American tradition."

"I am really excited to be a part of the Oscar-1 flight and to give the passengers a little star treatment," enthused Chef Puck.

Customers onboard "Flight of the Oscars" will travel on United's p.s. -- a premium transcontinental service that offers customers more space and comfort when they travel between New York City and San Francisco or Los Angeles. Extra legroom, high-quality dining and entertainment will be a few of the amenities customers enjoy on this special flight along with:

-- Photographs with an Oscar statuette.
-- An inflight Oscar trivia game with unique prizes from the Academy,
United and Wolfgang Puck.
-- Chocolates shaped like Oscar statuettes created by Master Chef
Wolfgang Puck.

Today's flight arrives at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 12:04 p.m. (PST) in terminal 7, gate 72. At LAX, Sid Ganis, the president of the Academy, will personally welcome the Oscars to Los Angeles and distribute commemorative 78th Academy Awards posters to each passenger.
