Oscar(R) Nominated 'DARWIN'S NIGHTMARE' is Named France's Best First Film

Oscar(R) Nominated 'DARWIN'S NIGHTMARE' is Named France's Best First Film

Controversial Film is Winner at 2006 Le Cesar(R) Awards

PARIS, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- In the last major film awards before the Oscars(R), "DARWIN'S NIGHTMARE"(LE CAUCHEMAR DE DARWIN), Hubert Sauper's blisteringly sobering documentary feature on the multiple effects of globalization, was awarded the Meilleur Premier Film (Best First Film Award) at the 2006 Les Cesars du Cinema in Paris on Saturday evening.

Sauper's controversial film was the popular choice as it bested four highly-touted candidates including fellow Oscar(R) nominee "LA MARCHE DE L'EMPEREUR" Luc Jacquet's documentary which became a monster hit in its US release as "MARCH OF THE PENGUINS."

The Austrian-born and Paris resident Sauper can only hope that the award portends next week's Oscar documentary competition.

Centering on the unbalanced trade relationship between Europe and Africa and set specifically in the East African country of Tanzania and Lake Victoria (the world's largest tropical lake) "DARWIN'S NIGHTMARE" delves into the gradual death of a once-perfect ecosystem and unearths the exportation of food out of the continent and the importation of weaponry in.

A critical and audience favorite, "DARWIN'S NIGHTMARE" is currently being released in the United States by International Film Circuit and Celluloid Dreams.
