Grammy and Golden Globe Winner Kitaro Breaks New Ground With His New CD Release, Spiritual Garden, in This, His First-Ever Project With Wife Keiko

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Always breaking new ground and constantly blurring the lines between musical genres, Kitaro's new release, Spiritual Garden, is inspired by the Harupin-Ha Butoh Dance of Koichi Tamano. It follows Kitaro's vision first visited by the artist on his Tamayura DVD.

Unique to this project is Kitaro's collaboration with wife Keiko. Performing with her for the very first time on CD, Spiritual Garden is a collection of all-new music inspired by the Butoh dance, brilliantly and expertly executed by the 12-time Grammy-nominated artist.

Butoh is a contemporary avant-garde dance form which originated in Japan. It combines dance, theater and improvisation, melding them with influences of Japanese traditional performing arts and German Expressionist dance (Neue Tanz) to create a unique performing art form. It is both controversial and universal in its expression and has evolved to become an international art form with artists and groups devoted to teaching and performing it worldwide.

While it did begin in Japan, its influence has spread via traveling Japanese performers, teachers, companies and individuals who practice it, have been influenced by it or incorporate portions of it into their own style of performance. It can be found on nearly every continent. Dance festivals have featured performances by Butoh artists since the 1960s, but more recently festivals have been held which are exclusively devoted to Butoh.

More on Kitaro:

For over a quarter century, Kitaro has been an internationally recognized icon and globally acclaimed composer and musician. Influenced early on by American rock and R&B, Kitaro began experimenting with synthesizers and a rainbow of unconventional sounds in the mid-'70s. His pioneering fusion of electronic artistry, traditional Japanese forms, and pop-inflected Western idioms created a lush, harmonic, and poetic sound that won the now-legendary artist a huge international following.
