Target Celebrates Black History Month by Dreaming in Color
Educational tools, an exclusive gospel compilation CD to benefit the United Negro College Fund and a special CD of love songs by Mary J. Blige honor the African American legacy
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Target(R) celebrates Black History Month this February, and all year long, by encouraging everyone to dream their biggest dream in color, outside the confines of black and white. Target is recognizing the innovators who inspire others to follow their dreams by offering guests educational tools and information about African-American influencers on http://www.target.com/blackhistory. The Web site features a learning center, historical timeline and teacher's corner, which includes curriculum guides focusing on the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
"Creativity flourishes best when there are no boundaries or restrictions," said Laysha Ward, vice president of community relations, Target. "Our support of Black History Month and the 'Dream in Color' message is meant to inspire everyone to reach their full potential."
Target also has released a gospel compilation CD featuring music greats, such as Kirk Franklin, Tonex, Yolanda Adams and CeCe Winans. Two dollars from the purchase of the $5.99 CD will be donated to the United Negro College Fund. The CD is available at Target stores nationwide and at Target.com.
In a special partnership with Mary J. Blige, Target has released an exclusive CD, "Love Songs," also available at stores nationwide and at Target.com. Blige's spiritual growth and journey from a childhood in the projects of Yonkers, N.Y., to an early success plagued with drama, and now her current joy and success, embodies the "dream in color" theme. She dreamed big, beyond what she thought was in her reach, and became one of the most powerful voices in music today. Through the course of 14 years, six studio albums, one live collection, a dance album and a remix album, Blige never failed to deliver potent R&B/hip-hop mantras that work on the head, heart and hips. The music she makes, and the songs that have brought joy and solace to so many, have also been her own salvation.
