WXDJ-FM Miami Establishes New Precedent for Hispanic Media

COCONUT GROVE, Fla., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. ("SBS") (NASDAQ:SBSA) today announced that Spanish-language radio station WXDJ-FM has been ranked as the highest biller in a major U.S. market, setting a precedent for the Hispanic media industry.

SBS Miami flagship, WXDJ-FM ("El Zol 95"), was ranked #1 in billing among all South Florida radio stations with total 2005 revenues of over $23.3 million, according to the national CPA radio revenue monitoring firm of Miller, Kaplan, Arase and Company. WXDJ's revenue total was over $2.5 million more than the next highest billing station in the market, 42.7% over its own prior year total, and the highest annual revenue ever achieved by any South Florida radio outlet.

Historically, Hispanic media outlets have been unable to generate revenues commensurate with their extraordinary audience delivery levels. This ratings- to-revenue disparity has been cited as the last remaining obstacle before Spanish-language media can fully realize true economic equality with its general market brethren. During 2005, WXDJ met and actually exceeded its pro-rata revenue share, establishing a precedent for the overall Hispanic media sector.

Separately, SBS today also announced that its two flagship properties, WSKQ-FM in New York ("Mega 97.9") and KLAX-FM in Los Angeles ("La Raza 97.9") have been ranked the #1 and #2 top billing Spanish-language stations, respectively, in America and the top revenue generating Spanish-formatted stations in the nation's two largest media markets.

Raul Alarcon, Chairman and CEO of SBS, stated, "This is a major event in the continuing evolution of Spanish-language media in the United States. WXDJ's accomplishment signals a bright future for Hispanic media as we strive to bridge the historical disconnect between our ratings and the ability to generate our fair share of market revenues. Thanks to the aggressive efforts of our Miami sales teams, the future has arrived."
