Comcast Metro Richmond and Radio Disney Sponsor African American Hero Essay Contest

RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of Black History Month, Comcast Metro Richmond and Radio Disney AM 1290 are sponsoring the Comcastic Disney Kidcaster African American Hero Essay Contest during the month of February. The program was created to help students explore and discover the historic and contemporary figures that have shaped Black History. Three winners will have the opportunity to shoot a commercial spot on Comcast reciting their winning entry on camera and on-air during Radio Disney's Kid Concern's Radio program.

Students in third through eighth grades are invited to write a brief composition (approximately 100 words) on anyone they feel has shaped Black History through their accomplishments. The hero can be someone past or current, famous or simply someone they know personally.

"This will certainly be a terrific opportunity for students to learn more about the significant contributions of African American leaders that have shaped our culture and communities," said Kirby Brooks, Vice President & General Manager for Comcast Metro Richmond. "We also believe that while writing these essays, students will learn about the people and challenges behind some of the most remarkable achievements of our time and events that forever changed our world."

The contest will run from February 1, 2006 through February 24, 2006 with the winners being announced on March 3, 2006. Please contact Monica Callahan, Public Relations Coordinator for Comcast Metro Richmond, at 804-915-5468 or visit http://www.radiodisney.com/WDZYAM1290 if you have questions about this exciting opportunity.
