WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 Wins November Sweeps
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV is the Detroit television market's number one station, sign-on/sign-off, according to the November 2005 Nielsen Media Research rating survey which ended Wednesday. WXYZ-TV garnered a 6.2 rating/14 share, versus WDIV's 5.8 rating/13 share, WJBK's 4.4 rating/10 share and WWJ's 3.2 rating/7 share. WXYZ-TV was Detroit's number one rated television station in national morning news, daytime, afternoons, early fringe, early evening news and prime time.
Leading the way to WXYZ-TV's November rating victory was the dominant performance of Channel 7's Action News. Action News was the number one newscast in the Detroit market for noon news, 5 p.m. news, 6 p.m. news and for the entire 5-7:30 p.m. early evening news block. In addition WXYZ's early morning (5-7 a.m.) and 11 p.m. news both experienced significant year-to-year growth, registering a 13% and 6% ratings increase, respectively.
Action News at Noon, anchored by Robbie Timmons and Carolyn Clifford was Detroit's number one noon news. Airing noon-1 p.m., Action News is Detroit's only one-hour noon newscast and outdelivers both WDIV and WJBK. Action News delivered a 6.4 rating/20 share, versus WDIV's 5.4 rating /17 share and WJBK's 2.2 rating/7 share.
At 5 p.m., Robbie Timmons and partner Frank Turner were the dominant number one, posting a commanding victory over WDIV. 5 p.m. Action News garnered a 10.3 rating/20 share, versus WDIV's 8.7 rating/17 share and WJBK's 3.4 rating/7 share. This is the twentieth consecutive rating book that 5 p.m. Action News has placed first.
6 p.m. Action News with Diana Lewis and Stephen Clark, was the number one rated newscast, delivering an 11.1 rating/20 share, compared to WDIV's 10.4 rating/19 share and WJBK's 3.1 rating/6 share.
11 p.m. Action News with Diana Lewis and Stephen Clark generated a 10.8 rating/18 share. WDIV garnered a 14.3 rating/24 share. WJBK's 10 p.m. News placed third in late news, garnering an 8.2 rating/12 share. Year-to-year, 11 p.m. Action News is up 6%.
In non-news programming, WXYZ-TV also turned in top rated performances. WXYZ-TV's morning block programming (9-10 a.m. Regis & Kelly, 10-11 a.m. Martha Stewart and 11 a.m. - noon The View) was number one, garnering a 5.4 rating/17 share and outdelivered WDIV by 75% and WJBK by more than a two-to- one margin.
At 4 p.m., WXYZ's Oprah delivered a 10 rating/23 share. WDIV's Ellen DeGeneres delivered a 4.4 rating/10 share and WJBK's Judge Judy garnered a 3.6 rating/8 share. Oprah continues to beat both WDIV and WJBK combined at 4 p.m.
ABC Prime Time programming was number one in November 2005, averaging a 10.2 rating/15 share. Year-to-year, ABC prime programming is up 5% in the Detroit television market. WDIV/NBC placed second in prime time programming, generating a 9.1 rating/13.5 share. Year-to-year, NBC prime is down 18% on WDIV. WJBK/FOX was third in prime time programming, posting a 6.8 rating/10 share. Year-to-year, FOX prime on WJBK is down 14%. Desperate Housewives remains Detroit's number one rated prime time series.
Each local rating point equals approximately 19,360 households; share represents the percentage of TV sets tuned into a program.
