Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive Partners with MSNBC on Single Advertiser Day Across News Sites

ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI) today announced it has partnered with cable channel MSNBC to launch a full day of advertising for the cable network throughout WPNI's news properties -- washingtonpost.com, newsweek.com and Slate.

On Wednesday December 14, all standard advertising units on the three sites will carry promotions for MSNBC's prime time programming, including Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Live & Direct with Rita Cosby and Scarborough Country. The cross-site campaign is part of a broader and unprecedented coordinated digital ad buy by MSNBC that includes the WPNI sites and more than eight hundred blogs.

This marks the first time WPNI has launched a single advertiser issue across its news properties. It's also the first time a major cable network has used internet advertising to drive television viewership.

Caroline Little, WPNI CEO and publisher, said, "As online advertising becomes much more a part of national marketing, it is safe to say that you'll be seeing even more innovative ad campaigns such as this one. We're proud to say that we work closely with our advertisers to encourage such innovation."

The campaign follows a series of ad innovations that national advertisers have launched targeted to the influential audiences on WPNI news sites. Earlier this month, WPNI launched advertising on video podcasts (with EarthLink), a single advertiser issue on Slate (with JC Penney), and the first image ads in RSS feeds (also with MSNBC).

Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive is the online publishing subsidiary of The Washington Post Company (NYSE:WPO). Its mission is to develop the company's editorial products and businesses on the Internet and across all electronic content delivery platforms. WPNI's flagship products include washingtonpost.com, Slate, BudgetTravelOnline.com, and Newsweek.com. The company is headquartered in Arlington, VA.
