TV, Radio Ads Remind Adults: 'Don't Let Minors Drink'
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has launched a statewide television and radio ad campaign urging adults to "Don't Let Minors Drink."
"Everybody can play a role in fighting underage drinking, but parents are the key audience we're trying to reach with this campaign," said PLCB Chairman Jonathan Newman. "According to a 2003 Omnibuzz survey conducted by Teenage Research Unlimited, 65 percent of adolescents identify parents as the leading influence in their decision not to drink. Children learn by your words and your actions, so while talking is valuable, making responsible choices about your own alcohol use is also key."
The TV and radio ads, which are scheduled to run through the end of December, refer to the high school yearbook tradition of naming superlative students in certain categories. But, "Most likely to be served alcohol at home" is not a title a student or parent would want. "Your influence, your concern, your rules can keep minors away from alcohol," the ads tell parents and adults.
The advertisements direct viewers and listeners to http://www.dontletminorsdrink.com/, a website the PLCB introduced earlier this year and was recently updated with information to help community members take action against underage drinking. The site also features content for parents. Sections geared towards teachers, law enforcement personnel and youth are planned.
