Top Television Studios Lit By Color Kinetics

BOSTON, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Color Kinetics Incorporated (NASDAQ:CLRK), a leading innovator of intelligent solid-state lighting systems and technologies, continues to drive adoption in the television production market with recently completed installations for The Tonight Show, CNN's Washington DC Newsroom and The Situation Room, MTV Total Request Live, and The X Factor -- one of the UK's top-watched entertainment programs with an estimated 10 million viewers. Its systems will also vividly light the globally anticipated Final Draw ceremony for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which will be broadcast in 145 countries on December 9 from Leipzig, Germany.

These mark the latest in a growing number of high-profile television events and programs to apply Color Kinetics' LED-based systems as a practical alternative to conventional lighting methods in set design. Unlike conventional sources, they require no gels or filters to supplement fill and background lighting with color. In the use of white light, they uniquely allow color temperature control to properly illuminate sets and on-air talent. Their compact size and absence of heat allow versatility in positioning the systems on set, including the direct integration into set elements where the use of conventional lights is impractical.

"The extraordinary visual impact of Color Kinetics' systems coupled with their ease of control and rugged, durable nature makes them an ideal solution for The X Factor set," said show lighting director Dave Davey, who applied 171 units of iColor(R) Tile FX beneath the clear stage floor to display sophisticated video-based effects. "LED technology allows a completely new level of creative flexibility in lighting design, and the saturated colors translate very effectively on camera." The set also features the use of Soft- LED, a light drapery manufactured by Main Light Industries with Color Kinetics' Chromasic(R) technology.

"Lighting for television has a host of specific technical and aesthetic requirements that are well-met by Color Kinetics' versatile systems, as evidenced by their growing market adoption," said Bill Sims, President and CEO, Color Kinetics. "From decorative set lighting to video backdrops, Color Kinetics' technology makes it possible to dynamically tune sets and studio environments on the fly, all while minimizing maintenance and operational expenses. From a practical standpoint, the lack of radiated heat allows LED- based lights to be placed in closer proximity to on-air talent, resolving a long-standing industry challenge."

Color Kinetics' systems additionally illuminate the sets of CNN ShowBiz Tonight, ESPN SportsCenter, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Super Millionaire and Wheel of Fortune, among others.
