Nielsen//NetRatings has reported that nearly a fifth of the online buying population, or 18 percent, accounts for nearly half, or 46 percent, of total online spending. These buyers, dubbed "Most Valuable Purchasers" by Nielsen//NetRatings, spend more dollars online and make more purchases on the Internet than the rest of the online buying population.

Super Rich Planning to Spend a Storm This Holiday
Spending by the elite affluent, people with a net worth over ten million dollars, is projected to grow significantly according to just released research from Prince & Associates/Elite Traveler magazine. The survey of 511 elite affluent individuals shows while many Americans are fearful of interest rate hikes and increases in energy prices, the uber-wealthy will be spending even more this holiday than last year. For example, the Elite Affluent are planning to spend on average $74,600 for jewelry this holiday -- either for themselves or gifts, an increase of 10 percent from 2004. Spending on fashion accessories such as shoes and handbags will jump 39 percent to $29,100, according to the Prince & Associates/Elite Traveler magazine survey. Other spending categories on the rise over this holiday for the super rich include hotel and resort stay, yacht charters, villa and ski house rentals, watches, wines and spirits for entertaining and holiday entertaining.

NABJ Begins Issuing Relief Checks to Members Affected by Hurricane Katrina, Encourages Others to Apply and Donate
The National Association of Black Journalists has begun issuing financial grants to N-A-B-J members directly affected by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Six N-A-B-J members -- five from New Orleans and one from Metairie, Louisiana -- have each received checks for 500 dollars from N-A-B-J's Katrina Relief Fund, established in September to help journalists and students affected by the disaster. The members benefiting include a working journalist and five college students. N-A-B-J has raised nearly 19-thousand dollars to help members from the Gulf Coast region, including individual donations from members and contributions from other journalism associations.
