Mercury's Sugarland Garners Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Sugarland, the singer/songwriter trio from Atlanta, Georgia, received their first Grammy nod today in the Best New Artist category which encompasses all genres of music. Jennifer Nettles, Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush were in New York City this morning when they received word of their nomination. "When I consider the people who have been nominated for this award in years past, I am humbled and emotional," says Sugarland's lead singer Jennifer Nettles. "To represent country music in such an auspicious category is overwhelmingly beautiful. It signifies and validates the power of all types of music!"

Just two weeks ago, Sugarland won their very first award at the AMA's for Breakthrough Favorite New Artist, another category in which all genres of music were considered.

Upcoming national TV performances for Sugarland include the 2005 Radio Music Awards, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Sugarland is performing their debut single "Baby Girl" on the RMA's, which will be broadcast LIVE from the Aladdin Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Monday, December 19 on NBC from 9:00-11:00pm EST. They will perform "Something More" and "Down In Mississippi (Up To No Good)" on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve special, which airs December 31 on NBC from 11:30pm-2:00am EST. And on January 12, Sugarland will perform their current single, "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. All of the songs being performed appear on Sugarland's Platinum-selling debut album Twice The Speed of Life.
