"We, like so many of our viewers, are thrilled that Larry is returning to TV, and honored that he will make his return on CN8, joining our family of award-winning hosts," said Jon Gorchow, general manager and vice president, CN8. "Larry's expertise in covering the who's who of news and the world's most renowned events will add great value to our Sunday night programming. We are excited to introduce Kane's unique journalistic style to CN8 viewers from Maine to Virginia, and to make it available to Comcast systems nationwide."
Kane first joined CN8 as a media consultant in January 2003 and was instrumental in the launch of "Your Morning" and the ongoing development of "CN8 News." As host and executive producer of "Larry Kane: Voice of Reason," the 45-year news veteran, acclaimed author and award-winning journalist will guide the network on its first weekend foray into news analysis and discussion.
"I've spent the last few years doing radio commentary, newspaper analysis and consulting for Comcast's CN8," says Kane. "This is a defining moment for TV News and CN8 is seizing it in many areas. In an era when local television stations across the country are walking away from community commitment, Comcast and CN8 are expanding theirs. This unique programming philosophy, combined with CN8's vast regional audience, offers me and the network an exciting new opportunity in news coverage."
"Larry Kane: Voice of Reason" will air Sundays at 6:30 PM exclusively on CN8, The Comcast Network. The weekly news analysis show, hosted by Larry Kane, will feature special guests discussing key issues and events. The show will open each week with a brief commentary from Kane and will also feature a special news preview at the end of each broadcast before closing with viewer letters and feedback.
"My passion throughout my career has been to dig deeper to give viewers a vision of what's happening now and what may come next. This show will allow me to enlighten viewers and inform them of the hard facts we're facing," continued Kane. "I plan to go beyond the normal restrictions of a traditional newscast to serve as the viewer's advocate in tackling hard issues. I've spent my entire career reporting the news, with this show I get to take the gloves off and help viewers get real answers to tough questions."
Larry Kane recently celebrated his 45th anniversary in broadcast journalism, and is one of the nation's most respected figures in television news. In September 2005, the multi-Emmy-award-winning newsman received the prestigious Governor's Award from the National Television Academy's Mid- Atlantic chapter, recognizing him for Lifetime Achievement. Kane has interviewed a virtual who's who of newsmakers throughout his career, has covered 21 national political conventions and interviewed every President from Lyndon Johnson to George W. Bush. An accomplished author and Beatles historian, Kane's third book, "Lennon Revealed," was published in October 2005 by Running Press.
In addition to reaching CN8's Maine to Virginia viewing audience of 7.1 million homes, "Larry Kane: Voice of Reason" will be made available to Comcast Cable systems nationwide reaching a potential 21.4 million homes throughout the country. The weekly broadcast can also be viewed live, online at http://www.cn8.tv/. Comcast Digital Cable customers in the Philadelphia and Boston DMAs may access "Larry Kane: Voice of Reason" for 7 days following the broadcast.
