Discovery Health Channel names nationally renowned medical expert Dr. Mehmet Oz as the network's Senior Medical Contributor. Dr. Oz, who recently co-authored and received wide acclaim for the best-selling book YOU: The Owner's Manual, will continue to bring his wealth of medical and health knowledge to Discovery Health Channel in new and exciting ways.

In his capacity as Senior Medical Contributor, Dr. Oz will sustain a significant presence across the network, including hosting the special YOU: THE OWNER'S MANUAL WITH DR. MEHMET OZ AND DR. MICHAEL ROIZEN, which premieres Wednesday, January 25, at 8 PM (ET/PT). Based on Dr. Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen's best-selling book, this one-hour special guides viewers on an offbeat journey through the human body while describing proven and critically important tips on restoring and maintaining your health. With a slew of surprising factoids and a combination of animations and unique illustrations, the television special brings viewers a more complete understanding of what makes the body tick and how people can maintain their health, strengthen their bodies and lead healthier lives.

In December, Dr. Oz began filming the three-part documentary, TRANSPLANT! (working title) at New York Presbyterian Hospital. This three-part series, slated to air in April 2005 during National Donate Life Month, chronicles the dramatic stories of patients in the hospital's Cardiac Care Unit, all who are awaiting life-saving heart transplants. Dr. Oz guides viewers through highly charged stories of organ procurement and transplantation, showing just how difficult and emotional being on the donor list can be.

Currently, Dr. Oz provides strong content expertise to the network, including his contribution to Discovery Health Channel's Daily Rounds -- five- minute news segments that explore breaking headlines and trends in medicine and health. In addition, he hosts and helps shape Discovery Health Channel on- air vignettes that focus on important health tips from his best-selling book.
