VH1 Classic and VH1 Soul to Premiere 'VH1 News Presents: Tracking The Monster: Ashley Judd and India.Arie Confront AIDS in Africa'
NEW YORK, Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- December 1, World AIDS Day is an international day of action for HIV/AIDS. While most families gear up for the holidays, VH1 will provide special programming on the AIDS epidemic to give viewers a closer look at how the pandemic is affecting nations and millions of people. In addition, VH1 will be providing educational materials for schools and advocacy groups to accompany the programming.
"VH1 News Presents: AIDS -- A Pop Culture History" will air at 12:00 PM.* Hosted by AIDS activist Ashley Judd, this documentary is a unique look back through the history of AIDS as seen though the prism of popular culture. It reviews how media and culture greatly influenced the general public's knowledge and attitudes about the disease over the last 20 years and chronicles the journey of HIV/AIDS awareness through five stages: silence, fear, activism, mainstream and complacency.
"VH1 News Presents: Tracking the Monster: Ashley Judd and India.Arie Confront AIDS in Africa" will air at 5:00 PM.* This documentary chronicles two emotional journeys to Africa by actress Ashley Judd and Grammy winner India.Arie as they witness the effects of HIV/AIDS at sites supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Kenya and Madagascar. It reveals the broad story of the global AIDS crisis and the fact that no matter where you go, the real enemy is ignorance and the common cure is understanding. On December 1 VH1 and Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will distribute the documentary to Congress members on Capital Hill in an effort to help continue U.S. support for the issue of HIV/AIDS globally.
VH1 Classic and VH1 Soul will also observe World AIDS Day be premiering "VH1 News Presents: Tracking the Monster: Ashley Judd and India.Arie Confront AIDS in Africa." VH1 Classic will air the documentary at 5:30 PM/ET and VH1 Soul will premiere the special at 6:00 AM/ET, 2:00 PM/ET and 10:00 PM/ET.
