U.S. Retailers Have Reason for Optimism This Christmas Season, Global Survey Suggests

Americans plan to spend more money on Christmas holiday gifts than anyone else, says a new global survey by A-X-A, giving retailers reason for optimism as "Black Friday" approaches this week. Results from the survey by A-X-A, say that the average working American plans to spend approximately $1,345 on Christmas holiday gifts this year, the most of any country surveyed. The results reflect a 42 percent increase over projected spending in last year's A-X-A survey. In 2004, working Americans planned to spend an average of $950 for gifts, which earned them a second-place ranking behind shoppers in the U-K.
