Lightworks Program Distribution and the British Broadcasting Company Announce Co-Production Agreement
- 'C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia' to Premiere Primetime on BBC2 -
NEW YORK, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Lightworks Program Distribution today announced that it has reached a co-production agreement with the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) for "C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia." This marks the company's first co-production deal with the BBC.
Through the agreement, the "C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia" co-production will be broadcast exclusively in the United Kingdom on BBC2 in 2005, airing as a Christmas Special in primetime.
"We are elated to have the BBC as a co-production partner on this program. We look forward to a long-standing relationship with such a highly respected network," said Madeline S. McEneney, Head of International Sales and Licensing, Lightworks Program Distribution. "Together, we shaped this program to fit the needs of the BBC's audience. We were able to produce a quality piece to respond to the C.S. Lewis 'mania' that the upcoming Hollywood feature film release of Lewis' 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe' has already created."
Carol Sennett, Executive Producer for the BBC, stated, "We are delighted to be working with Faith & Values Media and Lightworks on such an extraordinary project."
"C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia," is a production by Faith & Values Media, in association with Lightworks Producing Group and Windborne Productions. The film was recently chosen to premier at the C.S. Lewis Summer Institute in Oxford and Cambridge ("Oxbridge") in July and was warmly received by a broad range of viewers, including scholars, dignitaries, and avid fans of C.S. Lewis. The one-hour docudrama, filmed in many of the actual locations in England and Northern Ireland where Lewis studied, lived, and worked, is a biographical account of his life, exploring the inspiration behind his children's literary masterpiece "The Chronicles of Narnia," among other works. Norman Stone, who won an International Emmy and two BAFTA Awards for "Shadowlands," wrote and directed the docudrama. Anton Rodgers, seen in Hollywood's "The Merchant of Venice," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," and the long- running series," Fresh Fields," stars as C.S. Lewis. Diane Venora, who has appeared in the films "Heat," "Romeo + Juliet," "Surviving Picasso," and the Emmy-winning series "Chicago Hope," co-stars as Joy Gresham.
"Our co-production of 'C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia' is the first of many deals we anticipate, coming on the heels of the launch of Lightworks Program Distribution," said David Dreilinger, President and CEO, Lightworks Enterprises Inc. "This co-production agreement with the BBC serves as a benchmark for future deals to come."
