DSO Thanksgiving Weekend Concerts Launch 21st Century Classical Music Experience
"Classics Unmasked" Concerts Utilize Video Screens and Conversations
with Conductor and Musicians to Enhance the Concert-Going Experience
WHAT: The Detroit Symphony Orchestra unveils a brand new way to experience classical music on Thanksgiving weekend with a new concert series titled "Classics Unmasked." These engaging multimedia concerts offer a unique glimpse into the world of classical music and are designed to bring patrons closer to the music being performed and to the artists creating it. Utilizing video technology, the concerts provide a unique perspective on the action through live projections onto screens on either side of the Orchestra. Resident Conductor Thomas Wilkins will speak directly to the audience and with members of the Orchestra, as well as with composer Michael Colgrass, providing greater insight into the music to enhance the audience's experience.
MORE: The Nov. 25-27 concerts feature the DSO premiere of Michael Colgrass' Deja vu for Percussion Quartet and Orchestra, featuring the DSO percussion section as soloists. In addition, the Honorable Dennis W. Archer will be featured as narrator of Copland's Lincoln Portrait and the DSO will also perform Barber's Adagio for Strings and Haydn's Symphony No. 103, "Drum Roll."
