Experts In Speech, Language and Hearing to Meet in San Diego

Plan to cover the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Annual Convention, November 18-20, 2005, San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, CA. More than 1,500 individual educational sessions by leading experts in communication sciences and disorders will be held.

CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS:

* Mavis Leno, keynote speaker, Friday, November 18, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. An
activist on behalf of women's and children's rights, she is currently
Chair of the Feminist Majority's Foundation's Campaign to Help Afghan
Women and Girls. She has testified on gender apartheid before the U.S.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was instrumental in defeating the
energy company UNOCAL's efforts to construct an oil pipeline across
Afghanistan.

* Mick Fleetwood, award-winning musician, and founder and drummer for
Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood, who has partial hearing loss due to years of
not protecting his hearing from loud music, has advocated for the
importance of hearing protection at concerts. He will receive the Annie
Glenn Award during ASHA's annual awards ceremony on Saturday, November
19. Annie Glenn, wife of Senator John Glenn, is known nationwide as
a tireless advocate for those with communication disorders. The "Annie"
is awarded to a person who best exemplifies Mrs. Glenn's invincible
spirit.
