G4 Tackles Sex In Videogames Issue in New Television Special Report
One-Hour Original Program 'Sex In Games: A G4 Special Report' Premieres August 23, 2005 at 11:00 PM ET/PT
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- G4, the videogame lifestyle network available in 53 million homes, is taking on the hot-button issue of sex in videogames in an all-new, one-hour television special, "Sex In Games: A G4 Special Report." The announcement was made today by Peter M. Green, SVP of Programming & Production, G4.
"Sex In Games: A G4 Special Report," which premieres August 23 at 11:00 PM ET/PT on G4, provides objective insight about how sexuality is used in games and how it is continually evolving. Examples include the early XXX efforts on the first Atari console as well as the current controversial "Hot Coffee" content in today's "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."
The special will also feature a hosted forum on the subject of sex in games in which political pundits, retailers, game developers, and concerned parents will be invited to cut through the noise of the "Hot Coffee" controversy and explore the real issues surrounding sexual content in today's videogames. Confirmed guests joining the forum include Ed Fries, co-creator of the Xbox; Seth Schiesel, Technology Culture writer, New York Times; Melissa Caldwell, Parents Television Council; and Leland Yee, California Assemblyman. Also scheduled to participate are representatives from the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association and the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.
"The recent controversy and increasing concerns over sex in gaming has fueled debates among a wide range of opinion-makers -- from developers to the White House," Green comments. "As an authority on the videogame industry, we are in a unique position to provide an extensive and objective inside look at all sides of the topic with this new G4 investigative report."
"Sex In Games: A G4 Special Report" includes interviews with industry experts such as Joe Minton (Developer, Playboy: The Mansion) and Chuck Osborn (PC Gamer Magazine), revealing how sexy games got their start and just how far today's developers are willing to push the envelope. Other guests include, Hugh Hefner (Playboy Magazine), Anatole Brown (Executive Editor, Tips & Tricks Magazine), Brenda Brathwaite (Senior Designer on Playboy: The Mansion, Cyberlore Studios), Chris Charla (Executive Producer, Foundation 9 Entertainment), Tom Smith (Design Director on Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, High Voltage Games).
