Bold Films Joins Forces With Emilio Estevez to Recreate the American World of 1968
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Bold Films has given the greenlight to Emilio Estevez's project, Bobby. Estevez is set to direct the epic film from his original screenplay, with a stellar cast which already includes Anthony Hopkins and Demi Moore.
Part fact, part fiction, the film chronicles the intertwining lives of a grand cast of characters -- all of whom are present at the Ambassador Hotel in the hours leading up to the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.
Bold Films' Producer Edward Bass notes that, despite its title, the film is actually an ensemble character piece. "This is a film about a bullet -- one that not only killed Bobby Kennedy, but that also affected the lives of every single character in our film and, moreover, killed the innocence of our entire country."
Topics such as racial stereotypes, class differences and sexual inequality all emerge throughout the film's storylines, though they are presented within the context of the film's 1968 setting. According to Bass, "All of these issues are just as relevant today as they were back then."
Emilio Estevez adds, "My intention with Bobby is not to make a political picture, although the 1968 California primary figures prominently in the story. The film is about being at critical mass -- critical mass in relationships or between races ... and the hotel and the characters under its roof serve as a microcosm for what was happening in the country during that time. The entire country was experiencing critical mass! Culturally, we all unraveled after that tragic night on June 5th. And now, 37 years later, our country has reached critical mass once again."
As always with Bold Films, Michel Litvak will executive produce, along with his team of Bold Films President Gary Michael Walters and Dan Grodnik. Bold Films has had recent successes with Mini's First Time, starring Alec Baldwin, Nikki Reed, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jeff Goldblum and Slingshot, which stars David Arquette, Thora Birch, Balthazar Getty and Julianna Margulies.
The company has just completed production on Joey Lauren Adams' directorial debut, Come Early Morning, starring Ashley Judd, and is in pre-production on the first feature from Domenica Cameron Scorcese, Saturn's Return to New York, and the debut screenplay from Athena Stensland, Rosa, which will be helmed by Marleen Gorris, director of the Academy Award(R) winning film, Antonia's Line.
Bobby is scheduled to begin production this fall in Los Angeles.
