Health Fair 11 at the Fair Offers New Screenings for Fairgoers

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Great Minnesota Get Together is all about indulging in your favorite treats ... buckets of chocolate chip cookies, tubs of fries, and baskets of greasy cheese curds. Along with those treats often comes guilt. Counter some of the guilt with a healthy trip to Health Fair 11 at the Fair. It's part of a well-balanced state fair experience.

Fairgoers who visit Health Fair 11 at the Fair will learn more about their health and wellbeing through a variety of free or low-cost health screenings. Have your blood pressure checked. Get a cholesterol test or diabetes screening. Get an up-close look at your ear drum and then have your hearing tested. Get a vision and glaucoma screening. Check your bone density. Determine your body composition. And before you head back out into the crowds, recharge in the therapy garden.

New this year

There are a number of new additions to this year's Health Fair 11 Building. First, try out some fascinating technology and have your retina scanned. Just like finger prints, everyone's retina is unique. See what yours looks like.

Also new this year are pneumonia shots. The Minnesota Department of Health would like to see more adults get immunized for pneumonia. You can find out if you should have the shot and then get one if you need it.

And have you ever considered organ donation? This year, you can learn more about it and then change your driver's license, if you wish to become a donor.

Finally, as you read this, how are you sitting? Are you slouching ... sitting up straight? How do you sit when you work on your computer? This year, you can get your posture assessed. This new screening will map your posture to help detect potential problems.

Health Fair 11 at the Fair is conveniently located in the Crossroads Building at the intersection of Dan Patch Avenue and Cooper Street. Exhibits are open 9:00am - 9:00pm. Admission to the building is FREE! Plus, you could end up on TV! KARE 11 plans to broadcast daily from the Health Fair 11 exhibits.
