Box office revenues in the United States will pass $10 billion for the first time in 2006, according to a new report 'Moviegoing 4'. This figure compares with revenues from tickets of $8.7 billion in 2003 - and the figure will keep growing to $11 billion by 2008. Most of the gains will come from higher ticket prices rather than increased attendance. By 2008 1.56 billion Americans are expected to attend cinemas, compared to 1.43 billion in 2003, but they will be paying $7.05 for the privilege - a full $1.00 more than in 2003.

Moviegoing 4 tracks the United States exhibition industry as it recovers from the consequences of overbuilding in the late 1990s. The report examines trends in the movie business, distribution and the cinema audience as well as the exhibition business itself.
